*Domain Information & Domain Name Servers (DNS):

Q. Do I own my domain and where in the world is it?
A. You own the lease to most new domains. Commercial (.com), network infrastructure (.net), and non-profit organization (.org), education (.edu). Other domains include: government (.gov), military (.mil), and international organizations (.int).

Some domains are available for sale, but you are only taking over ownership of the lease.

Designated Country-code top-level domains
Specific countries of the world are included at the end of the domain. An example of this would be www.letour.fr (.fr for France). However, (.br) is not a British domain. International Commercial domains, such as www.google.com.br (Brazil), may not be needed for certain types of companies.

A domain name registrar is an organization or commercial entity, accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Your domain name is registered though a registrar (GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Tucows) that you should have access to. If you are leasing a domain from Charleston Studios, and Charleston Studios has already registered this domain, you do not own the domain rights, nor do you have access to the registrar. However, you have the option to a secondary lease live domain names. This will help establish your name with credible online seniority, but without name rights to the domain.

Case: City of Dearborn v. Dan Mekled d/b/a ID Solutions
The Panel unanimously finds that the evidence of the existence of a common law mark is not sufficient. The City of Dearborn is a place.  There is not much evidence that the name has acquired any secondary meaning. The relief requested was denied. Applicable domain owners such as "Charleston" & "Lowcountry", are protected by Common Law rights.

You and/or your provider should keep your domain registration information current. We recommend you choose a solid domain name, as some names can be similar. If someone owns GreatAssociates.com, and you register Great-Associates.com (with dash), you may be sending web and email traffic to that domain. This is one of the ways Charleston Studios secures your domain and future. You should keep your domain for life as domain seniority is leading in search engines' rank.

Q. What are your SQL server names and how can I connect to them?
A. Due to Multiple SQL DSN Names and Security, we ask that you contact us.

Q. I need help with eMail?
A. Each hosting account has an MX Record available. Incoming and Outgoing email servers are simple. You can use (mail.yourdomain.xxx). Default ports apply (110/25). We do not recommend (info@, sales@, webmaster@, etc.) due to spam load. You are responsible for training & removing spam from the Smarter Mail System. We can consult with you on doing this, but every 30 days the just is purged and unrecoverable. Email recovery is limited to 2 weeks.

*Virtual Private & Dedicated Servers (VPS/DS) have exclusive ability to use SSL/TLS (Port 995)
To Map a port, Log on to SmarterMail and go to Settings > Defaults > Domain Defaults and change the SMTP Port (Alternate).

If your internet provider blocks you from sending on port 25, you may have a Virus/Malware problem with your computer. Port is 50 is an urgent alternative. We recommend this only as a temporary fix. The transmission ports we support (POP3, IMAP, SSL/TLS).Your web-based email account (data storage) is limited to your hosting plan.

Q. Can I purchase a domain, not have a website and have WHOIS Privacy
A. Yes and no. We do not support certain types of businesses (ie: spammers). However, if you want a domain for just email, we can offer services and support. An evaluation of your business and the domain will be provided will be completed by www.contactprivacy.com. The WHOIS Privacy service protects your identity. WHOIS Privacy is available for .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz domain names (but is not guaranteed).
